Why You Should Be a Morning Person

Oct 24, 2013 | Miscellaneous

In this video blog post, I answer a question from a reader that tons of people have struggled with…including myself.

“I’m working on getting up early in the morning, but I’m having trouble with it. Maybe I’m just not a morning person. How do you do it?”

I understand this, because I wasn’t a morning person…until I started defining myself a different way.

  • I like to sleep, but I’d proven to myself that I got better results from working in the morning than working later.
  • Can you make yourself do something you don’t necessarily want to do in order to get a result that you would like to have?

I found evidence that the most productive people in history were disciplined enough to wake up before everyone else did.

  • These people weren’t just a little more productive than everyone else; they were more productive by leaps and bounds.
  • George Washington Carver was one of them.

“Not being a morning person” is not a good enough reason for not waking up early.

  • You can be whatever you want to be.
  • Once you master rising early, you’ll get better at disciplining yourself in other areas as well.

If you’re looking for a practical, step-by-step process for waking up early, I highly recommend my friend Andy Traub’s book on the subject, The Early to Rise Experience: Learn to Rise Early in 30 Days. (You don’t have to take my word for it…just read the reviews.)
