Why You Should Join Facebook and Twitter

Jul 25, 2012 | Miscellaneous

Don’t roll your eyes, but I want to share with all of you a way that Facebook and Twitter can actually enhance your lives. I know, I know…they might seem silly to you, but just bear with me!

You see, if we all agree that we should be on a constant search for wisdom in our lives (and I think we do), then doesn’t it only make sense that we should listen to those from whom we can gain wisdom?

Facebook TagThe first place to start, of course, is your immediate circle of friends and family. If you want a successful, incredibly fulfilling marriage, then you should definitely start by seeking wisdom and counsel from someone you know who has achieved that. If you want to be financially secure, then you should start by seeking out those you know who have been successful financially. The list goes on…

But another common source for wisdom is the things we read, watch, and give our attention—books, speakers, pastors, audio recordings, videos, etc.

There are probably several authors, speakers, and other personalities whose material you just absorb constantly. I know I’m that way with tons of people—Dave Ramsey, Ken Davis, Patsy Clairmont, and Dan Miller just to name a few. I could listen to these people all day. In fact, I’d love to be able to just sit down and listen to them, maybe even ask a question or two.

I’m sure you have authors, speakers, and others whom you feel this way about.

Well, guess what? Most of the people you love and admire are already on Facebook and Twitter, and most of them are there for one reason—to keep an open conversation with their followers going.

Twitter TagThe reality is that Facebook and Twitter are not just some silly trend for kids. In fact, I’ve read some of the most amazing stories I’ve ever heard by simply reading the comments people have left on my Facebook page. I continue to see amazing observations made by people I admire on Twitter on a daily basis.

To put it simply, if you follow the right people, Facebook and Twitter can become a huge source of wisdom in your life.

So here’s what I want you to do. Make a list of the people from whom you seek wisdom. Then, see how many of them you can find on Facebook and Twitter. Don’t worry! It’s not complicated. If you found your way to this blog post, you can find your way to their pages. The easiest way is to just type their name into Google and then add “Twitter” or “Facebook” to the end.

Now, spend a week or so just keeping up with what they post…I’m sure somewhere along the way you will find something of great value.

Oh, and if you need a little nudge in the right direction, here are just a few of MY favorite people to follow on Facebook and Twitter:

Dave Ramsey: Facebook / Twitter

Michael Hyatt: Facebook / Twitter

Patsy Clairmont: Facebook / Twitter

Marilyn Meberg: Twitter

For those of you out there who are already on Facebook and Twitter, don’t forget that I’m out there too! Look me up…I will be your friend!
