6 Steps to Ignite Your Purpose

Apr 18, 2012 | Miscellaneous

Most people live their entire life according to what is. They make their decisions according to what is, and they claim to be proponents of reality. I would urge you to not think this way. Life is too short to live according to what is. Instead, I encourage you to live according to what if.

When you live your life with a focus on future achievements and future relationships and how you want them to be, rather than how they are at the moment, many more things are allowed to occur in your life. What I’m talking about is living your life with a bold and valiant purpose.

Changes Ahead Sign TagI think that it’s fair to say that you’re here on this planet for a reason. Now, that reason may seem to change throughout different periods in your life, but I really believe that you’re here for a specific purpose. And when you are able to latch onto that purpose and move with certainty toward an end result, amazing things will flow from your life.

The trouble, of course, is figuring out exactly what that purpose is. Or, sometimes, you know what the purpose is but it seems to have lost its luster. You’re tired and beaten down and the mission doesn’t seem important or attainable anymore.

Well, here are 6 little steps you can take to help you find your purpose or reignite the purpose with which you may have become a little complacent. It’s time to discover a renewed sense of why you are here.

  1. Identify what you want.
And I mean whether it’s in your life, or business, or anywhere else. If you want something out of life or your business, it’s obviously important to first know what that something is.

  2. Identify what you’re willing to give in order to get it.
Time, money, effort, commitment…these are all examples of something you can give. It can also be important to identify what you’re willing to give up in order to get what you want. Our own habits are our obstacles more often than we realize.

  3. Identify the obstacles that are in your way.
Are these obstacles in your mind? Are they physical? Do they involve time or money? Write them down.

  4. Identify what you will do to move beyond those obstacles, those hurdles, or those challenges.
It’s simple—what will you do to move beyond the things holding you back? What are you willing to risk? What chances will you take to fulfill your purpose?

  5. Create a plan of action and get to work.
Yes, I’m talking about putting pen to paper and physically writing a plan of action. There is power in writing things down. A plan turns intention into action.

  6. Notice whether or not you are getting the results you want.
If you’re not, incorporate new actions. Build them into your preparation until you begin receiving the results you’re looking for. And if you are getting the results you want, how can you do more of the actions that are helping you get those results and less of the ones that aren’t leading to your desired results?

The purpose of this exercise is to narrow the funnel of our actions so that we’re more accurately in line with where we desire our life to move. We’re refocusing our lives on what matters most. And when we focus on what matters most, we begin to fulfill our purpose.
